Pedometers Are Recognized as a Powerful Fitness Tool. Pedometer Use is Catching On Around the World.
Why are pedometers becoming so popular? Could it be because the pedometer is such a simple device, yet tremendously powerful? Absolutely! Could it be because this small, easy-to-use monitor can extend your life by helping you avoid some life-shortening diseases and conditions? Definitely!
The pedometer is hands-down the best device for tracking your daily activity level. Why do you want to do that? If you, like most people, want to lose weight or get in better shape, using a pedometer can get you there. It will help you take the small "steps" necessary to make great progress in your quest towards health and fitness.
Used properly, a pedometer will motivate you to take more steps, meaning you will burn more calories, and lose weight.
If you are new to walking for fitness, we recommend this article: Pedometers: The Magic Pill For Better Health. I think you will enjoy it! It talks about the tremendous fitness benefits available, and how a pedometer can help you lose weight and live a longer and healthier life.
We have other articles that you will find interesting as well. All of them are on the topics of fitness walking, pedometers, and more. We also are in the process of putting together a section of pedometer reviews where we will put every pedometer we receive through a standard battery of tests and compare their results side-by-side.
A pedometer feature comparison was included in Matt Ream's e-book, Simple Steps to Fitness: a Beginner's Guide to Pedometers. He put together a chart of pedometer features that is very helpful for any pedometer shopper. That e-book also includes a ton of very useful pedometer information and answers a lot of questions about buying the right pedometer for you. It discusses why a pedometer is useful, a little history, what features are necessary and which ones are useless. You can download it for free right here.
Walking for fitness is something anyone can do, at any time, nearly anywhere. It's nature's best exercise. With a pedometer, you can track the steps you take each day. Record them in a walking log (you can get one for free right here) to track your steps over time.
These little devices are a great motivational tool, as well. As you check it throughout the day, you will be encouraged to take more steps. Park farther from the grocery store. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Take the kids and/or the dog for more walks. Walk down the hall to visit your colleagues instead of sending e-mail. Stuff like that.
